The Will of John STRANGE, Yeoman of Ampney Crucis, Gloucestershire

This is the Last Will and Testament of me John Strange of the parish of Ampney Crucis in the County of Gloucester yeoman. I give devise and bequeath all that my leasehold messuage or tenement with the Garden and appurts. thereunto adjoining and belonging situate and being at ffairford in the said County and now in the occupation of Mrs. Boulton unto my daughter Mary Strange her executors administrators and assigns for all such Estate term and Interest as I shall have therein at the time of my decease and I also give and bequeath unto my said daughter Mary Strange the legacy or sum of one hundred pounds I give and devise all that my freehold [?] piece or parcel of land situate and being in the parish of Poulton in the County of Wilts which I bought of the mortgage of the late Richard Taylor deceased and which is now in my occupation unto and to the use of William [Romble?] Son of the late Bessy Coot formerly Bessy [Romble?] singlewoman his heirs and assigns for ever and I also give and bequeath unto the said William [Romble?] the legacy or sum of one hundred pounds to be paid to him when he shall attain the age of twenty one years and the Interest in the and the Interest in the mean time to be applied by my trustees hereinafter named for the use and benefit I give and bequeath unto my son John Strange and to William Smith of Cirencester in the said County of Gloucester Druggist their Executors and administrators the sum of two hundred pounds upon the following trusts that is to say upon trust as to one hundred pounds part thereof to pay the same to my grand daughter Eliza Goodman as and when she shall attain her age of twenty one years and the Interest in the mean time to be applied by my said trustees for and towards her maintenance education and breeding up and as to the sum of one hundred pounds remaining part thereof upon trust to pay the same to my daughter Sarah Goodman widow for her sole and separate use whether single or married at such times and in such proportions and manner as they my said trustees or the survivor of them his executors or administrators shall in their or his discretion think proper and most for her benefit and advantage and if any part of the said sum of one hundred pounds shall not be paid to her in her life time I give the same to her children in equal shares I give and devise all my freehold messuages lands tenements and hereditaments whatsoever and wheresoever and whether in possession reversion, remainder or expectancy with their and every of their appurtenances unto and to the use of my said son John Strange his heirs and assigns for ever charged and chargeable nevertheless and I do hereby charge the same and every part thereof with the payment by my said son his heirs and assigns of the said several legacies or sums of one hundred pounds one hundred pounds and two hundred pounds by me hereinbefore given and bequeathed and I direct that my said daughter Mary Strange may have a residence in my now dwellinghouse at Ampney Crucis aforesaid for so long time as she shall continue unmarried without paying any cost for such residence. All the residue and remainder of my Estate and Effects of what nature or kind soever I give and bequeath unto my said son John Strange for his own absolute use and benefit and I appoint the said John Strange and William Smith Executors of this my will and I give to the said John Strange and William Smith all such powers of Reimbursement and Accounting as are usual in like cases and I hereby revoke all former wills by me made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this seventeenth day of ffebruary in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty four. John Strange

Signed sealed published and declared by the said Testator John Strange as and for his last will and Testament in the presence of us who in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses the several Informations and alterations against which the Initials of our names appear having been first made. This is a Codicil to be added to the above last will and Testament of the above named Testator John Strange I hereby revoke the bequest of  the legacy or sum of one hundred pounds given by me to the above named William [Romble?]. In all other respects I hereby ratify and confirm my said will In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the fourth day of May one thousand eight hundred and thirty five. John Strange.

This is a second Codicil to be added to the within written last will and Testament of me the within named Testator John Strange whereas I have in and by my said will given to my said trustees John Strange and William Smith the sum of two hundred pounds upon trust as to one hundred pounds part thereof for the benefit of my Granddaughter Eliza Goodman and as to one hundred pounds remaining part thereof for the benefit of my daughter Sarah Goodman now I do hereby revoke the said bequest of two hundred pounds and in lieu and instead thereof do hereby give and bequeath unto my said trustees the sum of three hundred pounds upon trust as to the sum of two hundred pounds part thereof for my said Granddaughter Eliza Goodman and as to the sum of one hundred pounds remaining part thereof for my said daughter Sarah Goodman to be paid to them respectively at the times and in the manner mentioned in my said will as to the said sums of one hundred pounds and one hundred thereby respectively given to them or for their benefit and in lieu and instead of those sums In all other respects I hereby ratify and confirm my said will. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the 15th day of March one thousand eight hundred and thirty six. John Strange. Proved at London with two codicils 1st December 1836 before the Judge by the oaths of John Strange the Son and William Smith the Executors to whom admon. was granted having been first sworn by comon duly to administer.
